Grand BBQ? only at Grand Barbecue Restaurant

The same thought sprang in our mind of how a barbecue can be ‘Grand’ until we actually visited the restaurant to see its offerings!

Still a newbie that sits perfectly in Satwa, we were taken by surprise when we entered the restaurant. With warm interiors giving one the feeling of a palatial surrounding and a variety to choose from, this actually felt like a “Grand” but casual place.

We were welcomed by the staff who I have to say are very polite and such lovely people to chat with. However, like they say the first impression is the last… the cleanliness of the restaurant seemed a bit slow. The tables and floors were not cleaned before our arrival, and that disappointed me slightly. However, probably because it’s the peak period we can understand that the service would be concentrated on serving guests.

Moving on from the interiors, the choice of dishes to choose from was just beyond our imagination – 13 different salads, around 20 different dishes, and more than 16 sweet treats is what they offer everyday – for only Dhs 79 on weekends, and slightly lesser on weekdays!

Here’s what we had, and what we think about it:

For starters, I tried to be healthy and had a little bit of every salad! From all the salads available, the Apple and Pasta salad is what I’d recommend you to go for.

We were then served a plate of five different meats that were char-grilled with different spices. The green chicken also known as ‘Pahadi Chicken’ tasted absolutely delicious and teased our palette with its ‘green chutney’ flavor, and also was grilled to perfection where the meat was not too tender, neither too hard to get my teeth sunk in! The Tandoori chicken which was the next char-grilled meat seemed a bit off and just like any other that you would taste. That wasn’t one of my favourites. The Mutton Seekh Kebab is another one that you must try. The kebab was perfectly cooked retaining its juiciness and flavours.

My favourites from the starters for meats are Mutton Seekh Kebab and the Green Pahadi Chicken!

After a good meat session, we were then served a plate of Pepper tossed shrimps which was the best! Gently tossed in corn flour with red chili flakes and cooked with a little of garlic, the shrimps burst with flavours that gave us a sweet and tangy taste to it- this by far from the appetizers was my favourite.

The carnivores that we are, the restaurant knew us well and kept offering us different meats to try from. Obviously we were too full to try any more meats. So then comes the vegetarian side! Honey Sesame Cauliflower. This however didn’t seem to be of my taste as I personally felt that the cauliflower was slightly overcooked which caused it to be too crispy to munch on, and also it was very sweet.

From the starters to kick start our appetite for dinner, I have to say this by far is one of the best restaurants that offers more than what you’d imagine a casual dining restaurant could offer.

The specials on that day were the Mutton Biryani and Paya Curry. I’m not much of a mutton fan, but my fellow partner and sister tried the dish and preferred the biryani over the curry. I on the other hand tasted the vegetarian dishes that were brilliant!

For drinks, we ordered the restaurant’s special – thanks to the Supervisor Namit who forced us to try it! The cocktails wasn’t like any other and what stood out for me was its fusion with Rooh Afza.

We ended our review on a sweet note by falling in love with the Lemon ice cream that was zesty and chill at the same time – I haven’t had anything like this before, and this was the best if you’re looking for something light.

Last but never the least, the chocolate fondue is also a great one if you prefer some marshmallow mushiness!

Overall, the restaurant and its concept is excellent, service is great, and quality of food is brilliant!

Service: 4/5

Quality: 4/5

Cleanliness: 3/5

Value: 5/5 (For AED 79, the buffet offers a great variety to choose from. It’s definitely worth the value, actually much more worth than the value).
