Ecstatic with Mastic, at the Mastihashop UAE!
We were invited by the very kind and renowned Emirati entrepreneur, Mansoor Al Basktaki, owner of Mastihashop UAE to try out their premium desserts.
Expecting it to be just another store offering some sweets, I was thankfully proved wrong! We walked in the store surprised by the choicest and top-notch quality of their selection of desserts – with a variety of flavours and fusion that I haven’t come across before.
The interior of the store had a very enlightening effect, with such friendly staff who talked us through the concept of introducing Mastic in the UAE and how it helps one’s digestive system. Yes, it was hard for me to “digest” that – for a person who indulges on sweets all the time. With black and white tiled walls, and a super clean counter, I was impressed of how everything fitted very well and every corner of the store was filled perfectly.
We started off with the store’s famous milkshakes – Lotus and Rose milkshakes. The smooth blend of rose syrup, ice cream, and milk was just perfect to enjoy the gloomy weather. The Lotus on the other hand was also a great one, come on! When you have Lotus biscuits as an ingredient, how can it not be perfect?! But hey, have to admit the milkshake had just the right amount of cream, and milk and shameless to say I had it ‘til the last drop! For absolutely reasonable prices, you just cannot refuse to have this, no matter what the season is!
After a good chat over the milkshakes, we then were offered a bowl of three scoops of ice creams with Mastic, Saffron, and Rose flavour. Again, if you’re wondering why is there Mastic with every dessert, then Google how helpful Mastic is! All the way from Greece, the Mastic tree is famous and well known for being the key ingredient in home remedies to cure indigestion.
If you’re one who thinks their desserts are too sweet, or any dessert is too sweet then you must really try the Mastic flavour in any of your desserts you might choose to have at the store. The Mastic flavour is perfect for conscious people. Not too sweet and in no way tasteless either! You’ll be surprised by its mysterious taste which is indescribable. On the first spoon itself, there was a zesty and slightly pungent taste, that later chilled my palette – cannot understand, right? That’s why you must try it yourself!
If I could stay there for a few more hours, the staff would probably have fed me the whole store! Haha, by then our stomach couldn’t take in more sweetness from the staff and the desserts, but who could say no to the giant, and my favourite of all – the famous Arabic baklava. Living in the Middle East and you haven’t tried baklava, then you must try it here! Did I mention, they actually created a fusion out of the ordinary crunchy baklava to making it just extraordinary? I’ve heard of stuffed ice cream biscuits but stuffed baklava?? That’s new!
And there it was, at our table, a slice of the crunchy and sugar glazed baklava with Mastic ice cream stuffed. One spoon down, and I couldn’t have said no to get another one down, it was so good that the baklava would melt in the mouth whilst the Mastic played with your palate! What a brilliant fusion, I have to admit.
And finally, to end our review, we then had a cup of hot “Masticcino” with Rose toffee – a perfect way to look forward to the evening, gloomy weather and rainfall!
Overall, this store is a must go to if you’re a conscious individual of sugar consistency and other ingredients. Trust me when I say this, you won’t find a store that offers Mastic with such great concepts. Also, they accept orders, where would you find real luxury sweets for a reasonable price? – right here at Mastiha Shop UAE!
